World’s oldest man dies at 133 years

The world’s oldest man Chief David Ugwu, died yesterday Sunday at the age of 133 years. He passed on peacefully at his home in Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Until his death, Chief David Ugwu’s mind and vision were sharp. He recognized and called people by their names and threw banters.

I was privileged to interact with him at his country home in 2010 when he was 126 years of age. He held my hands, chatted with my spouse and ate with me and the Ozo council. Subsequently, Chief David Ugwu, the Ejimofor of Ukehe, admitted me into the Council of Ozo in the Ukehe Kingdom. It was the prelude to my titling on the same day at the Ofala of the Igwe of Agu Ukehe, Chief Emmanuel Arua, Ochi Udo I.

I visited Ejimofor David Ugwu again in 2014 when he was 130 years. It was amazing that he came out of his room with his staff of office along with other members of the Council of Ozo to receive and entertain me and management staff of NTA Enugu Network centre. He stayed with us, recognized me, called me by my title of Nwanne Di Namba and entertained us. His mind, sight and vision were sharp for his age.

I always enquired after him from his son and Agu Ukehe, Chief Dan Ugwu. Sadly, I can’t see Ejimofor David Ugwu anymore. May his soul Rest In Peace. Ejimofor, RIP.

It pains to read in the international media of men or women who died at the age of 114 as the oldest persons on earth. That is a fallacy. They need to expand their bank of information in such matters. Chief David Ugwu died at the age of 133 years as the oldest man on earth.
