‘The Catholic Church Is Charismatic’, Archbishop Kaigama Of Abuja, Nigeria

 

 

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama says the Church is and  always charismatic adding that members of the charismatic renewal were first Catholics.

The Archbishop stressed this when he received in audience members of the National Executive Committee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria at his office in Abuja.

Most Reverend Kaigama said every group can pray in different forms but that the sacred liturgy is what unifies all members of the Catholic Church. The liturgical celebration he said has its form which must be respected as nobody has the freedom to introduce any act as part of the liturgy.

He said it is Catholics that are charismatic and charismatics that are Catholic. He praised the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria for upholding the teachings and traditions of the mother Church adding that it is such faithfulness that has endeared the CCRN to the Catholic Church hierarchy. He also commended the Renewal on the participation of its members in praying the rosary as well as all May and October devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Archbishop Kaigama thanked the leadership of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria for all that the group is doing to give its members the right orientation. He said he is available for whatever role the CCRN wishes him to play and should be given prior information because he respects every appointment.

The National Chairman of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, Bro. Uche Manu, KSJI thanked the Archbishop for sparing time to receive them at short notice and for his commitment to guiding the charismatic renewal.

He informed the Archbishop of the planned National Summit of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal that is to take place in April 2023 in Abuja, praying that His Grace will grace the summit. He promised that when a definite date is fixed for the summit in April, the National Executive Committee will return to inform and invite him to participate.

Bro. Manu also told the Archbishop that the CCRN will host the Pan African Leadership Conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal also in Abuja in August 2023.

The Chairman said the CCRN is contributing its quota to evangelization through its involvement in catechesis at the Parish level. In line with that commitment, he said there will be retreat and workshops at the National Service Centre for further strengthen members of the Renewal on church teaching.

The immediate project of the CCRN he explained is the Jubilee Conference in November 2022 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Renewal in Nigeria. He said the CCRN had to defer to the Church by shifting the date of its Conference from 10th November which coincides with the date that the Church is to hold the National Eucharistic and Pastoral Conference in Benin. The leadership he explained is encouraging its members to actively participate in the Eucharistic Congress.
